Birthday Gifts - Put Some Thought Into It!

The one day we set aside to be really nice to a friend or family member is on his or her birthday. Unfortunately, due to our hectic lives, birthday gifts may be hastily bought or birthday presents may be forgotten altogether. This year, make a conscious effort to give your friend or family member unusual gifts to commemorate his or her birthday.

Choices for gifts would depend on the age, gender, personality and your relationship to the birthday celebrant. Giving gift certificates to a six year old is not appropriate and birthday presents that remind somebody that they are getting old may not be well received if you are not that close to the birthday celebrant.

Ideal birthday presents for young children should be related to his or her interests like basketball or dolls. If you are giving a toy as a birthday gift, make an effort to give an educational toy as a present and not just one that makes noise. There are many toys in the market today that are very high end like play computers or musical laptops.

For 'tweens' (pre-teens aged 8 to 12), clothes and a keen interest in cell phones is observed if you are to believe the latest market surveys. However, if you are thinking of giving a cell phone as a birthday gift, be sure to check with the child's parents first. If you ARE the parent and want to give a cell phone as a birthday gift to ensure that your child can be easily reached, choose one that is kid safe. For instance, there are phones for tweens where they cannot dial a number you have not previously allowed.

Birthday presents for teenagers, girls mostly, are things they could wear like accessories or something fashion-related. This is the same for boys (minus the accessories of course).
